Definition
The climacteric and menopause (last menstrual period) is a natural phase in the life of women. It is a normal physiological process where there is decreased activity of sex glands and loss of various functions. Changes occur on average after 45 years of age, and this aging process takes about 10 years time when it takes away all the hallmarks of this stage and the loss of female fertility. It is believed that a woman is in menopause when there is absence of menstrual period for more than six months.

Signs and Symptoms
The main manifestations during menopause are:
* Hot flashes: Sudden temperature where it goes from having very hot to cold with sweating
* Discrete decrease in high-density cholesterol (HDL)
* Increased low-density cholesterol (LDL) which can lead to increased risk of atherosclerosis and heart problems
* Bone Decalcification: postmenopausal osteoporosis
* Insomnia
* Decreased sex drive
* Irritability
