What is depression?

Depressive disorder is a disease that affects the body, mood and thinking, of conceiving reality. It affects the normal cycle of sleep-wake and feeding. It alters the vision of how you value yourself (self esteem), and the way you think.

It is important to clarify that a depressive disorder is not the same as a passing blue mood, which can be considered a normal reaction to a negative event (loss of a loved one, divorce, etc). However, if this state is prolonged in time or your symptoms worsen, impeding the proper development of everyday life, it can become a depressive disorder, hence the importance of the person to receive appropriate treatment.

Symptoms

These are the main symptoms of depressive disorder:

The person loses interest in almost all usual activities, and in which before had caused him pleasure.
Rather sad, hopeless, discouraged. Often uses expressions like ‘I’m inside a hole, “” I think I hit bottom. ”
